Sonny & Perley
The husband and wife team of pianist Sonny Daye and vocalist Perley Rosseau has been developing and perfecting its unique blend of Jazz, Brazilian, and International Cabaret styles over the past several years. Indeed, the duo is equally at home in the swing, bossa nova, and samba idioms, as the recordings featured here in the Jazz Archives amply demonstrate. With roots in traditional jazz, Perley uses her powerful voice to deliver emotional performances refined with expressive nuance. Sonny is an accomplished accompanist, who creatively inspires and responds to Perley's vocal ornaments and improvisiations.
The duo has released two CDs to date, both featured here on the Jazz Archives. The CDs have generated international airplay and have received critical acclaim here in the US. Sonny & Perely regularly perform along the East Coast, as well as in Europe, and continually captivate audiences with their spontaneity, warmth, and broad repertoire. We are delighted to have Sonny & Perley among the first members of our Jazz Archives roster, and look forward to future releases.
~ Reviews ~
"Honest straight-up music with no pretense. Sonny and Perley work their gifts and make their magic in front of and behind the micrphone."
The Poughkeepsie Journal
"A Jazz group that can really swing...stellar piano work! Fresh, soaring and strong vocals striking memories of Sarah Vaughn or Carmen McRae."
The Daily Freeman Preview
"Perley is a 'SuperSongress.' She has a beautiful, smoky-low to middle-upper register voice, wonderful intonation, and stage presence. The sky is her limit."
